The touch and feel pool was full of easter eggs and all colors of packaging peanuts. All the kiddos had a blast putting the packing peanuts into the eggs and pretended to make them hatch. We also worked on putting the eggs together while matching the same colors of the tops and the bottoms. We stacked them on top of each other to make "egg" towers and talked about all the different colors that we saw in the pool. Who knew plastic easter eggs could target so many concepts and be so fun at the same time!
After morning circle, Ryan and Ethan used their fine motor muscles to roll and flatten play-dough during their free center time. I heard lots of great spontaneous sentences and requests out of both boys as we made big and little balls and stacked balls on top of each other to make a snowman. We made long "mama" snakes and short "baby" snakes. We also used cookie cutters to make seals, monkeys, alligators, pumpkins, and Christmas trees. They were having so much fun with the play-dough that neither one of the boys wanted to put the play-dough away when it was time to go outside.
We stuck to our usual schedule today and joined the other DUMC two-year olds on the playground. Ryan and Ethan continue to be best buddies as they play chase, serve pizza, hotdogs, and apple juice at the "take-out window," go down the slide over and over again, and of course race shopping carts.
For our language lesson, we continued our conversation on airplanes. We read the book Airplanes by Byron Barton, which is another great book emphasizing all of our new airplane vocabulary. Again, we talked about the parts of the airplane, the pilot, the people/passengers, and learned that planes fly high in the sky. Planes can be all shapes and sizes too!
After we finished reading our story, we headed to the art table to make another fabulous airplane using popsicle sticks and clothespins. Before the boys got to school, I hot glued two popsicle sticks to the top and bottom of the clothespin to make the wings; and then I cut off the ends of a popsicle stick to make the tail. Ryan and Ethan's job was to paint their new airplanes. Both boys chose to paint their airplanes red and demonstrated a great attention span to this painting task. Once the planes were well painted and complete, we flew them down the hall to check out their performance!
We ran out of time to watch the following airplane video, but you can show the boys this one when you review what they did today!
We ended our day getting our pictures taken out in the courtyard. Both boys were happy, and I think the photographer got some great candid shots! I hope you all have a great weekend. Next week we will be learning all about boats, and we have some really fun activities planned!
